A Triple Double Duel

Last night the Denver Nuggets met the Milwaukee Bucks in what became an excellent exhibition of young talent and a showcase of two stars who are shaping up to dominate the league in the coming years. Last season we saw the triple double in all it's glory. Russel Westbrook became the MVP on a campaign in which his stat line closely resembled that of the runner up in James Harden. The difference, he averaged a triple double. Well, last night we witnessed the quickest triple double in NBA history as Nicola Jokic reached his in just 16 minutes. The 3rd year center finished the game with 30 points, 15 rebounds and 17 assists while going 3/3 from deep. The historic speed with which he hit the triple double mark cast a bright spotlight on the skilled Serbian big man as he carried his team to a 134-123 victory. His incredible performance was enough to overshadow another player's night that would otherwise have been the focal point of any evening.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, while doing it much slower, also racked up a nifty triple double. With 36 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists, Giannis would have stolen the show in nearly any other game. Lucky for us these two stars are the NBA's future. Giannis is 23 and Jokic is 22, can you believe that? The league is evolving and so are it's players. It may just be a phase but the NBA is gathering a crop of players who are able to absolutely load the stat sheet and deliver incredible impact in every aspect of the game. Who knows, maybe one day these two will meet in the finals. Why not? Nuggets, Bucks, 2025. Believe it.
