Pelicans Lose Boogie for the Season

If only the Pelicans could have a do over of Friday night. They're 8-2 in their last 10 games, one game behind the 5th place Thunder, and after beating the Rockets last night they would have had the attention of the whole league (for a good reason) as they appeared to be figuring it out. Unfortunately it seems New Orleans is cursed. During the win against Houston, Pelicans' center DeMarcus Cousins went down with a torn Achilles tendon and is expected to miss 6-10 months. I don't know what to say other than injuries can f**k right off.

The Pels were playing their best basketball of the season and it looked like we were finally going to see playoff boogie. Cousins has failed to reach the playoffs in the first 8 seasons of his career and was poised to end that streak alongside Anthony Davis and the improved play of Jrue Holiday. The Cousins/Davis experiment has been a rough one. Without sufficient talent surrounding them, it looked as if the trial would come to a close with either Boogie or AD finding themselves on another team in the next year or two. With their recent surge, however, we began to imagine the problems New Orleans might cause in a 7 game series and the playoff Pelicans started to feel real. Then this happens. Did I say injuries can f**k off already?

Cousins was averaging 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists this season, and was just selected as a starter in the 2018 All Star game in Los Angeles in what has been one of his best campaigns to date. What was it I said about injuries?

Where the Pelicans go from here is unclear. Do they continue looking to add talent through a trade and take these playoffs seriously or do they focus their efforts on next year? Who knows. One thing is certain, the NBA is not the same without DeMarcus Cousins. Get well soon Boogie.
