Not long after making it known that Avery Bradley was on the trading block the Detroit Pistons found their deal. It was a much bigger swap than I had in mind and boy am I excited for it. The Detroit Pistons have agreed to send Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic, a protected 1st round pick and a 2nd rounder to the Clippers in exchange for Blake Griffin, Brice Johnson and Willie Reed. Wow.
After the Clippers pitched him as their franchise guy and tossed him a max contract this summer, the relationship seemed set in stone. But the deal very quickly started to sour as we saw once again the injury issues which have plagued Griffin throughout his career. The trade allows the Clippers to free themselves of that money in exchange for expiring contracts in hopes of making moves for big name free agents in 2019. The Pistons are going to look much different and it is going to be interesting to see how Blake plays alongside guys like Drummond and eventually Reggie Jackson. One thing is for sure, I'm going to be watching more Detroit basketball than I have in a long time.
It's a great day in the NBA when the Avery Bradley deal turns into the Blake Griffin deal.
